Cherry Electrical Products, founded in 1953, was acquired by the ZF Group in 2008. The well-known microswitch and sensor brand Cherry will be continued under the umbrella of ZF Friedrichshafen AG and will also be marketed under this brand. The product portfolio will gradually be expanded beyond microswitches to include electronic controls, such as touch controls based on infrared technology for the household appliance industry, as well as sensors.

Product responsibility and use of substances
Following the extensive exclusion of lead, cadmium, chromium (VI), mercury and some flame retardants as part of the RoHS Directive, the REACH Regulation has resulted in comprehensive new requirements for ingredients in products. The obligation to provide information on substances of very high concern under REACH plays a central role for manufacturers of products. These substances have been published and regularly updated on the website of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) since October 28, 2008 as part of the so-called candidate list. Checking whether ZF products contain one of these substances is therefore an ongoing process. If ZF identifies one of these substances in its products via the supply chain, a substitution process is started.
