The foundation stone for the company's reputation was laid on May 10, 1879 by master plumber Wilhelm Paff, who developed, manufactured and distributed soldering water in addition to his craft activities. His successor Hans Eckstaedt, the son-in-law of the company founder, successfully managed the expansion and established the internationally protected Stannol trademark on the market at the end of the 1920s. As early as the 1950s, Stannol began to develop products for electrical engineering and later also for the electronics industry.
In 1989, Stannol was taken over by the English group Kelsey Industries, with its own subsidiaries in the USA, Canada, Australia and Malaysia. In February 2000, Kelsey Industries was taken over by Henkel KGaA. The following year was characterized by restructuring. Some product areas had to be transferred to Loctite Deutschland GmbH, a Henkel subsidiary. In July 2001, Karl-Heinz Dörr, as former Managing Director, took over Stannol-Lötmittelfabrik Wilhelm Paff GmbH & Co KG, which now trades under the name Stannol GmbH & Co KG, as part of a management buy-out.
In 2017, Marco Dörr becomes Managing Director alongside his father and takes over most of his responsibilities. The company is highly regarded by customers all over the world. The product range includes solder, solder wire, solder paste, soldering flux, soldering irons and electronically controlled soldering stations as well as a comprehensive range of accessories.
Quality, functionality and progressiveness are the company's hallmarks.
